SAVE OUR JOBS, OUR MERCHANTS, OUR COMMUNITY!!
The SFTMA has proposed a plan for the L - Taraval streetcar to decrease travel time (by three minutes from the Beach to the West Portal Tunnel), and to increase safety, by adding 16 Boarding platforms (eliminating 160-175 parking spaces on Taraval St), eliminating 2 of 4 traffic lanes, eliminating 8 stops, and adding 10 traffic lights - at a cost of $20,000,000.
We, the undersigned, merchants, employees, patrons of merchants, and residents DO NOT WANT THIS PLAN!!!
THE PROBLEM(S): This plan will:
- Drive many merchants out of business and cause thousands of people to lose their jobs
- Increase Traffic Congestion on the street and lessen our quality of life
- Force people to walk longer distances
It is not worth running our small businesses out of business, thereby eliminating thousands of jobs, leading to the demise of our retail street, nor increasing the traffic (including the total blockage of the street when delivery trucks need to stop), to use boarding platforms - at a cost of $20,000,000! Small businesses are the lifeblood, the heart and soul of our city! This city was built on small businesses. Small businesses are
what sustain us. It is not worth hurting people’s lives to eliminate 8 stops and reduce 3 minutes of travel
time (over 30 blocks).
THE SOLUTION: START BY SIGNING THIS PETITION!
We believe by educating (or at least alerting) the public to STOP for street cars through a public service ad campaign, using signage, media, or even lowering a stop sign (like school busses), safety issues will be dramatically improved.
